Are microbiome tests reliable?

Updated on

The reliability of microbiota analyses has taken a qualitative leap thanks to massive sequencing (NGS). At Vivabioma, we have left behind limited techniques to adopt shotgun metagenomic sequencing technology, which not only identifies who lives in your gut, but what they are doing (functionality).

Our reliability is based on three pillars:

  1. DNA Stabilization: The use of kits with stabilizing liquid is critical; this prevents degradation and protects the genetic material, ensuring that the sample arriving at the laboratory is as faithful as possible to that of your gut at the time of collection.
  2. Technological Precision: By analyzing fragments of all the DNA present, we avoid the biases of old methods. This allows us a high resolution at the species and strain level, something fundamental to distinguish, for example, between a commensal bacterium and a potentially pathogenic one.
  3. Medical-Grade Security: We apply state-of-the-art encryption protocols and strictly comply with the GDPR, guaranteeing that your genomic information is private and dissociated from your personal identity throughout the analytical process.
